The actual decision to take epidural is difficult but we simplified it by giving you these questions to ask yourself and few questions to Medical professionals. So it may help you in making that decision.
Epidural administration is a method of medication administration in which a medicine is injected into the epidural space around the spinal cord. An epidural anaesthetic, used especially in childbirth to produce loss of sensation below the waist.
Questions for you:
Can you tolerate the pain?
Pain tolerance differs between people but if you can tolerate pain for now and if you're afraid of pain increasing wait till you run out of all pain bearing ability to go for an epidural.
Questions you have to ask medical professionals:
Which station your baby is right now, if you start epidural early you might run out of drip during last hours of your labour which is still not what you might look far.
If your baby is progressing along each stations fastly then try and manage the pain using Lamaze breathing. Do breath through it and see what works for you. Ask as many question as possible about the labour nurses suggestion and plans.
Anesthesiologists team is confident in injecting the needles?
If they take too many attempts it's a painful process, which could be uncomfortable or a make or break scenario for a person who could be scared of needles.
P.S it took 5-6 prick for me the anesthesiologist didn't even feel confident I should have found the red flag.
