I am very much addicted to YouTube and I am sure I’m not the only one. When we have 1000 things to do, we plan it well and say I will do it after watching this entertainment content. It’s really difficult to stay off of it.
Here I am trying to use this addiction to feed curiousity. You must agree YouTube also has some valuable contents too. If you don’t have anything to learn or do or nothing inspires you then you can watch whatever you want. But if you are like me want to learn something new be it subject related as a student or skill related for working professionals, there’s always a channel for you. Find your passion and learn using this unlimited free resource called YouTube.
You would be thinking yes I have millions of study material or instruction material out there but I still tend to go for the entertaining content rather than the one that’s “Useful”. To you I have a small tip when used with little integrity can work wonders.
Magic Sword to Slay the Monster (Tip):
Create a fresh Gmail account hook it in your mobile account and open YouTube freshly there search for your domain content (the content that is Useful to you) and subscribe to good channels aligns with your domain and make sure to teach the algorithm that you only want content related to that domain by using Don’t Recommend this channel option and Not interested options. You will eventually have an account that’s full of your domain content that you can watch anytime and not feel bad for wasting time.
Honour Code:
Inorder to get the best out of this tip when you want to see an entertainment content be sure to switch to your old account.
Always keep the account back to your new account with the worthy content.
Whenever possible just open the suggestion/subscribed video of your new account and it will always be something useful and you end up gaining knowledge over your addiction.
Why this works?
You are removing sensation to watch some irrelevant content to focus on your domain based contents from the new account.
By asking you to change account every time you need to watch irrelevant content we are connecting the action with an extra step that creates a discouragement.
By keeping the new account back after watching irrelevant content you are allowing yourself to view the domain base assertive content every time when you re-open the app. This provides an encouragement to look through the new account and engage with guilt free YouTube experience which eventually can teach you a skill or two.
In sometime you associate YouTube with studies/learning your brain reward centers will activate.
At the very least by associating, watching YouTube with a studies/learning a skill you wouldn’t be addicted and discouraged to spend more time doing your work or living your life.
Extra Tip:
If you have an extra device use it to watch entertainment content and completely remove the old accounts from your most used device.
HAPPY LEARNING!
